This is a fun 2-day course focuses on the powerboat knowledge and skills and covers some content from Australian Sailing Safety Boat Operator course and boat license course. This course introduces the practical skills and knowledge you need to get your NSW Boat License. (Note that you do not receive your NSW Boat License after this course you need to 2 in the one day "NSW Boat License" course to get your boat license). The course covers skills and knowledge helpful in becoming an Australian Sailing dinghy instructor. Note that this course does not provide formal certification. It provides valuable on water experience to build competent and safe drivers
Audience
This course is designed for participants older than 12 years of age who are keen to develop skills to competently and safely drive a powerboat and possibly are aspiring to become certified Australian Sailing dinghy instructors. Must be water competent.
Course Content

Introduction/basics
- Parts of the boat (basic terminology)
- Basic weather (forecasts, sea state, effect of wind and tide)
- Powerboat theory
- Legal responsibilities and obligations.
- Equipment and instructors
- Communication (use of radios)

Safety

- Kill cord, life jackets, communications, crew position and safety
- Personal equipment (clothing, lifejackets etc.)
- Rules of the road
- Onboard safety
- Emergencies (types of emergencies, man overboard recovery, marine radio distress calls, rescue and recovery)

Boat Handling
- trim, stability, waves, quick stop
- driving position, crew safety
- low-speed handling
- approaching the pontoon and securing the boat

- Anchoring
- Berthing
- Handling lines
- Tying knots
The course is taught by qualified and experienced instructors using our RHIBs (rigid inflatable rescue craft) and Sailing School Pacers.
