Description

The course is tailored for all persons wanting to qualify for a NSW Recreational Boat Licence and the Australian Sailing Powerboat Handling syllabus, at a pace to suit all whilst having fun at the same time.

Courses are conducted from either:

  • Mosman Bay Marina on the beautiful Sydney Harbour. or
  • Woollahra Sailing Club on every first Sunday of each month and times during school holidays.

Course Overview

The course is a one-day program consisting of roughly equal parts of (1) theory & seamanship and (2) hands on training on the water.

This one-day course is designed to improve cover the syllabus for the NSW Recreational Boat Licence.  You will learn more about the safety aspects of powerboats, different types of crafts & engines, rules of the sea (Colregs), tides and weather forecasts, simple navigation techniques for a passage, location, tides.

On successful completion of the course, we will issue you with a certificate that you can take to your State Maritime Regulator (Service NSW).

Course Prerequisites

Water confident. Come skills, knowledge and practical experience is highly recommended, for example those skills gained in AS Start Powerboating or equivalent power boating experience.

Who should do this course?

People requirring NSW Recreational Boat Licence or anyone wisting to further develop their powerboat driving skills, e.g. it is a prerequisite for becoming a Dinghy and/or Windsurfing Instructor.

Course Outcome

You will gain your AUstralian Sailing Powerboat Handling certificate.

To obtain your NSW Boat Licence, you take the Australian Sailing certificate you receive on this course, together with photo ID and the licence fee, to any Service NSW centre within one year.  No need to do any further testing or logbooks.

What to Bring

Soft soled shoes (white if possible), hat, sunscreen, shoes, wind/rain jacket, gloves (recommended) and a curious mind.

Meet at Atlas Sailing Office at Mosman Bay Marina, 1 Centenary Drive - 4hr parking nearby.

Pickup options from:

  • Rose Bay Marina (adjacent to the Boathouse Restaurant) - 0815 and rfeturn after the course completion.
  • Elizabeth Bay Marina (at the bottom of Billyard Ave) - 0830 and return after the course completion.

Atlas Sailing abides by the Australian Sailing Instructor/Participant ratios; hence places are strictly limited. All programs are subject to change with limited notice, based on demand and availability and weather conditions.

Please read the Atlas Sailing refund policy before registering. Refunds will not be provided for cancellations less than 14 days prior to the event as there are limited places available. If a session is cancelled due to weather, or another force majeure circumstance, participants will be offered a place on another scheduled date or a full refund.
